DSiP: Academic Social Media

October 2, 2015 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Dear all: we are pleased to announce the launch of the Digital Scholarship in Practice (DSiP) series as well as its first event. Find descriptions of each below. The events are open to anyone, so forward the invite as appropriate. Hope you’ll join us!

Digital Scholarship in Practice (DSiP)
The DSiP series invites students, staff, and researchers to join the growing community of practice surrounding digital scholarship and research at NC State. In contrast to workshops focused on learning new software or tools, DSiP events emphasize the topics and questions driving digital scholarly practice in our community. Each event begins with a brief presentation by a member of our pack, so to speak: a scholar or researcher introduces their interests and how their practice is being shaped, including by new spaces and facilities, the demands of emergent research questions, or innovative approaches to teaching. Conversations then follow among the group. The series offers introductions to new as well as familiar faces, aiming to facilitate discussion of issues in digital scholarship, collaborative partnerships, as well as low-stakes participation in NC State’s mutually supportive community for digital scholarship and research.

The DSiP series meets the first Friday of each month at 3:00pm. It is organized by the Graduate Certificate in Digital Humanities with support from the CRDM Program and the NCSU Libraries. For our first event, we are pleased to invite you to a conversation about

Academic Social Media with
Dr. Blair Kelley
Friday, October 2, 2016
3:00pm in Caldwell Lounge

Join NC State’s digital scholarship and research community for a conversation with Dr. Blair Kelley. Assistant Dean for Interdisciplinary Studies and International Programs and a scholar of the history of African American social movements, Dr. Kelley has also cultivated a significant presence on social media. (Dr. Kelley’s highly-subscribed Twitter account is @profblmkelley.) Join us to discuss how social media is reshaping the engagement horizons for scholars, students, and publics.

Stay tuned for announcements about additional upcoming DSiP events, including a critical making workshop in DH Hill’s MakerSpace and more.
